2026 Global Photography Awards Announces Photographers of the Year and Category Winners

The 2026 Global Photography Awards has officially announced its top honors, naming Megumi Murakami of Japan as the Professional Photographer of the Year and João Coelho of Portugal as the Amateur Photographer of the Year. The announcement also revealed the winners across several specialized categories, highlighting excellence in diverse photographic disciplines.

In addition to the primary titles, the awards recognized specific category winners for their distinct contributions to the field. Derry Ainsworth was named the winner for the Architecture and Nature category, while Lucky Rangga secured the title for Editorial Photography. The People Photography category was awarded to Paul Bride, and Mats Andersson was recognized as the winner of the Black & White Photography category.

The announcement follows a period of recognition for various international photographic achievements. For instance, The Photo Review recently published its 2026 competition winners gallery, which featured photographers from locations including the United States, Vietnam, and Switzerland. In that competition, Hinda Schuman earned First Prize, Ward Roe received Second Prize, and Jenee Mateer was awarded Third Prize, with Viet Van Tran and Bienyl Huelgas also recognized as featured winners.

As the photography community continues to celebrate these achievements, other international competitions remain active. The Art of Building contest has moved into a public voting phase for its finalists, which includes Maho’s "Ice Flower Hotel" and Tomas Salac’s "Sculpted Pinnacle," with a voting deadline set for October 16, 2026. Meanwhile, the Ten Moir Gallery is hosting its Landscapes International Art Challenge, offering a $150 cash award and various promotional opportunities to artists participating from around the world.
