Emma Zacherl, a junior at Clarion-Limestone High School, has been named the winner of the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for her oil painting titled "Redhawk." This marks Zacherl's third consecutive win in the prestigious competition. As the top prize recipient, her artwork will be prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, and she has received an invitation to an exclusive reception in Washington, D.C., scheduled for June.
The announcement was made by U.S. Representative Glenn “GT” Thompson, who oversees the competition. Zacherl, a resident of Clarion, Pa., was selected from a field of 43 entries by an independent panel of judges. The winning piece, "Redhawk," was created under the guidance of her teacher, Kendra Zerbe.
Zacherl's repeated success in the Congressional Art Competition is notable, having previously secured the top prize in both 2024 and 2025. Her consistent artistic achievement underscores her talent and dedication, making her a standout participant in the annual event.
Beyond Zacherl's first-place triumph, other talented students also received recognition. Maya Fatula earned second place for her piece "Unexplored City." Rosalynn Renfrew was awarded third place for "Dear Emelia," and Cameron Sarick secured fourth place with "In the Friday Night Lights."
The announcement of the winners and the exhibition of all submitted artwork took place recently at the Winkler Gallery in DuBois, Pa. Zacherl's "Redhawk" will now journey to the nation's capital, offering visitors to the U.S. Capitol a glimpse into the artistic talent fostered within Pennsylvania's 15th Congressional District, culminating in her attendance at the special June reception.
