The 2025 Hedera Africa Hackathon has concluded, with winners officially announced on April 29, 2026. Nigerian team GreenAfrica secured the coveted first-place position, claiming a prize of $100,000. The competition, recognized as the largest hackathon globally, distributed a total prize pool of $1 million among its top innovators.
Organized by The Hashgraph Association and Exponential Science, the hackathon challenged developers to build groundbreaking solutions utilizing Hedera DLT across various tracks, including On-Chain Finance and AI & DePIN. The event saw participation from over 13,000 developers and received 1,300 project submissions, highlighting the continent's vibrant and expanding Web3 ecosystem.
Following GreenAfrica's top honor, the second-place prize of $70,000 was awarded to Carboni Renewable Energy Certificate Platform from Egypt. Mexico's Effisend X Africa earned third place, receiving $60,000. Silsilat Finance, a team from Malaysia, secured the fourth-place prize of $40,000, while Beyond Service, another Nigerian team, rounded out the top five with a $30,000 prize.
The competition emphasized innovation and impact, selecting Cross-Track Champions for their outstanding contributions to the Hedera ecosystem. With a focus on Africa, the hackathon engaged teams from across the globe, including Nigeria, Egypt, Mexico, Malaysia, South Africa, Romania, and Madagascar, fostering a diverse and collaborative environment for blockchain development.
Beyond the prize money, organizers have committed to providing ongoing support for the winning teams, aiming to help them further develop and scale their innovative projects. The success of this edition has also paved the way for future initiatives, with plans already underway for a 2026 edition of the Hedera Africa Hackathon, continuing its mission to drive DLT innovation across the continent and beyond.
