Monica Ikegwu Wins Best in Show at 2026 Bethesda Painting Awards

Bethesda, Maryland – The 2026 Bethesda Painting Awards announced its winners in early July 2026, following a successful finalist exhibition. Monica Ikegwu was awarded the prestigious Best in Show prize, accompanied by a $10,000 cash award, for her outstanding work in the annual juried competition.

The Bethesda Painting Awards, an annual event dedicated to recognizing talented painters from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C., concluded its finalist exhibition at Gallery B. The exhibition showcased the works of eight artists selected by the judges, running from June 4 to June 28, 2026, with an opening reception held on June 12.

Alongside Ikegwu's top honor, Julia Gould secured Second Place, receiving a $2,000 prize. Elizabeth Coffey was awarded Third Place and a $1,000 prize for her contribution. The Young Artist Award, also carrying a $1,000 prize, was presented to Kai Jones, recognizing emerging talent within the competition's scope.

The competition distributed a total of $14,000 in cash awards to the winning artists, in addition to providing them with public exhibition opportunities and recognition for their artistic achievements. The finalist exhibition took place at Gallery B, located at 7700 Wisconsin Avenue, Suite E, Bethesda, Maryland, USA, providing a prominent platform for the selected works.

The Bethesda Painting Awards continue its tradition of fostering and celebrating regional artistic excellence, drawing attention to the vibrant painting community across the D.C. metropolitan area.
