PITTSBURGH, PA — The Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) officially announced the 20 recipients of its prestigious 2026 James Collins Scholar-Athlete Award at its 35th annual awards ceremony. Held on April 15, 2026, in Pittsburgh, the event celebrated 10 male and 10 female student-athletes recognized for their exceptional achievements in both academics and athletics.
The James Collins Scholar-Athlete Award is a cornerstone of the WPIAL's commitment to recognizing well-rounded student excellence. This year's honorees were selected from a competitive pool of 151 nominees across the league, underscoring the high caliber of talent and dedication present in Western Pennsylvania high schools.
Among the distinguished male recipients are Carson Bellinger from Avonworth, who boasts an impressive 4.39 GPA and notably led Avonworth football to an undefeated 15–0 season in 2025. He is joined by Andrew Corfield of South Side, Robert Faddenn III from Mohawk, Joseph Felitsky of North Catholic, Ben Hays representing Bentworth, and Alex Klein from Peters Township. Other male honorees include Dylan Klinger of Charleroi, Jonathan Stetchock from Hempfield Area, Aaron Walsh of Chartiers-Houston, and Colin Whyte from West Greene.
The equally accomplished group of female recipients includes Claire Bacu from North Allegheny, Natalie Carr of Canon-McMillan, Emma Currier from Quaker Valley, and Josie Fontana representing Oakland Catholic. Juliette Leroux of South Fayette, Megan Mehall from Southmoreland, Mya Morgan from Elizabeth Forward, Brooke Price of Plum, Morgan Ross from California, and Lauren Rush from Chartiers-Houston were also celebrated for their outstanding contributions.
