Stamford, Connecticut – The Avon Theatre has announced the recipients of its 17th Annual Avon Scholarship Awards Essay Contest, distributing a total of $8,500 to area high school seniors. The competition, centered on the theme “Film Matters,” recognized top essayists and several honorable mentions for their compelling insights into cinema.

Joaquin Field, a senior from Stamford High School, secured the first-place scholarship of $2,000. Field's winning essay, titled “The Voice of Hind Rajab,” impressed judges and earned him the top honor as he prepares to attend Syracuse University.

Following closely, Abby Meyers of Greenwich High School was awarded the second-place scholarship of $1,500. Meyers' essay, which explored the themes within “Hamnet,” contributed to her recognition as she looks forward to continuing her education at Yale University. The third-place scholarship of $1,000 was presented to Jordan Alexander, a senior from New Canaan High School, for an essay discussing “Superman.” Alexander is set to attend UCLA.

In addition to the top three winners, the Avon Theatre recognized eight students with honorable mention scholarships, each receiving $500. These recipients include Abigail Sandoval, Riona McKersie, Nahim Cagua Llivipuma, Yaniah Chisolm, Genesis Fabian, Clara Bonomo, Angela Russell, and Alexandra Zodda. Their contributions further highlighted the depth of engagement with the contest's theme.
