FIDE Publishes October 2026 Rating List Following 46th Chess Olympiad

FIDE has officially released its October 2026 rating list, reflecting significant shifts in the global chess landscape following the conclusion of the 46th Chess Olympiad in Samarkand. The updated rankings highlight major performance surges and historic milestones achieved during the international competition.

A primary highlight of the new list is the return of Nodirbek Abdusattorov to the top five in the world rankings. Abdusattorov's ascent follows a dominant performance at the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, where he secured individual gold on Board 1. The ratings update also marks a historic achievement for Bodhana Sivanandan, who has officially become the youngest Woman Grandmaster in history.

The updated standings are heavily influenced by the results from the 46th Chess Olympiad. In the team categories, Uzbekistan claimed gold in the Open section, while China secured the gold medal in the Women’s section. The tournament also featured standout individual performances from several prominent grandmasters, including Javokhir Sindarov and Gukesh D.

In addition to the Olympiad results, the chess world has seen significant movement following the Global Chess League (GCL) 2026 held in Bengaluru. The Ganges Grandmasters secured their maiden Global Chess League crown after defeating the defending champions, the Alpine APL Pipers, in a two-leg final. A pivotal moment in the championship was Ian Nepomniachtchi’s victory over Magnus Carlsen, a win that helped propel the Ganges Grandmasters to the title. The FYERS American Gambits rounded out the top performers, finishing in third place.

As the October 2026 ratings take effect, the chess community looks toward the next cycle of international competition, with the latest rankings providing a clear picture of the current competitive hierarchy following a month of high-stakes tournament play.
