The Oakland Library has officially announced the winners of its 'Celebrating Immigrant Roots' art contest, an initiative designed to highlight and honor the diverse family heritage and personal journeys within the community. The announcement, made today, recognized young artists who powerfully conveyed their cultural narratives through their submissions.

Kaylee Calmo Ahilo was awarded First Place in the competition, recognized for an entry that captured the essence of the contest's theme. Following closely, Quynh Anh Ngo secured Second Place, while Brenda Abigail Cotom Gomez earned Third Place, both artists praised for their compelling artistic interpretations of immigrant experiences.

The 'Celebrating Immigrant Roots' contest provided a significant platform for young individuals to explore and express their personal connections to their family's origins. Entries submitted by participants across various age groups focused on deeply personal and cultural narratives, reflecting the rich tapestry of backgrounds that contribute to the Oakland community.

In addition to the top three placements, the Oakland Library also acknowledged several participants with honorable mentions, recognizing their notable contributions to the contest. These included Andrea Rivas, Corrine Cai, Michelle Martin Ramirez, Mildred Mejia Chapas, Jasiah Yin, and Jessica Jimenez Sales. These select honorable mentions, alongside the winning entries, are being showcased, allowing the public to appreciate the breadth of talent and the depth of the stories shared.
