The lineup for the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) grand finale has been officially announced, with PRESEC Legon, St. Augustine’s College, and Accra Academy securing their spots in the championship round. The announcement, confirmed on September 3, 2026, follows a rigorous series of qualifying stages that narrowed a field of more than 27 competing schools down to the final three.
In a decisive semi-final performance, PRESEC Legon clinched its place in the grand finale by defeating both St. John’s School and Tamale SHS. PRESEC Legon finished the round with a commanding 44 points, outperforming St. John’s School, which recorded 25 points, and Tamale SHS, which finished with 16 points.
The journey to the finals included a highly competitive quarter-final stage held in late August. During those rounds, several schools secured advancement to the semi-finals, including Achimota School, which posted 55 points, and Pope John SHS & Minor Seminary and St. Augustine’s College, both of which recorded 47 points. Other schools that progressed to the semi-final stage included Prempeh College (44 points), St. John’s School (43 points), Tamale SHS (36 points), Bright SHS (27 points), and both PRESEC Legon and Accra Academy, which each recorded 23 points.
With the semi-final results now finalized, the competition moves toward its ultimate conclusion. PRESEC Legon, St. Augustine’s College, and Accra Academy will now prepare to face off in the grand finale to determine the 2026 NSMQ champion in Ghana.
