Representative George Whitesides has announced Fiona Currie as the first-place winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition for California’s 27th Congressional District. Currie's artwork, titled Shared Skies, earned the top honor in the annual contest, which celebrates the artistic talents of high school students within the district.
The competition, held in the 27th Congressional District, which encompasses Palmdale and its surrounding areas, invited young artists to submit works reflecting the theme “The Future I Want to See.” Rep. Whitesides lauded the participants for their creativity and vision in addressing the forward-looking theme.
In addition to Currie's first-place achievement, three other students received notable placements. Esha Mandadapu secured second place for her piece, Seen Before it Exists. Brady Wan was awarded third place for his artwork, Where Nature Thrives, while Joanne Kim received fourth place for her submission, Our Olive Branch.
The Congressional Art Competition is an annual event that encourages artistic expression among high school students across the nation, providing an opportunity for young talent to be recognized at a congressional level. While specific prize details were not disclosed, the announcement highlights the students' artistic accomplishments and their contributions to the cultural landscape of California's 27th Congressional District.
